Vandals Destroy California Menorah Display
A 15-foot high menorah in California — aimed at encouraging understanding about Judaism — has been destroyed by vandals.
The nine-branched candelabrum was placed in a town green in Orange County earlier this month. A spokesman for the sheriff’s office says its stars were smashed, its lightbulbs broken and its stem had been cut.
He says the incident has been labeled a hate crime. An adjacent Christmas tree display was left unharmed.
Local residents are being urged to attend a menorah-lighting ceremony set for tomorrow, to send a message of unity and tolerance.
