Chiefs to Face Injury-Plagued Giants

On paper, the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Giants appear to cast similar shadows across the NFL landscape. Both have potent offenses and defenses that rank at or near the bottom third of the league, particularly when it comes to defending the pass.

What the numbers don’t reveal is who will be on the field Saturday at Giants Stadium when the teams meet in a game that has major playoff implications for both.

New York managed to make it to its 13th game with almost no serious injuries and with its core group of impact players intact. All of that changed last Sunday against Philadelphia when middle linebacker Antonio Pierce sprained his ankle and tackles Luke Petitgout and Kareem McKenzie also left the game with injuries.

Defensive tackle William Joseph, who had missed the three previous games with an elbow injury, also sprained his ankle and, like Pierce, will be on the sidelines Saturday.
