Navy Helicopter Down Off Coast of Columbia
There’s no word on the fate of the crew on board a Navy helicopter that crashed today off the coast of Colombia.
A Navy spokesman says a search and rescue effort is under way.
Another spokesman says the helicopter is a type that normally operates with a crew of three, but can have as many as five. It’s not clear yet just how many were on board.
He says it went down in international waters west of Colombia, but there’s no word yet on just what happened.
US Navy aircraft often fly counter-drug missions from ships in the region. Colombia is the world’s biggest cocaine producer and a major supplier of heroin to the U-S.
