Roche grants Tamiflu production rights in China
The Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche said it had reached a sublicensing deal for production of its flagship anti-influenza drug Tamiflu in China with Shanghai Pharmaceutical group.
Roche said in a statement that it had identified a total of 12 potential partners for production of the drug, which is regarded as a first line of treatment for bird flu.
“Following our open invitation to third parties we have established a short list of partners who can be ready to expand the capacity beyond 300 million treatments annually by 2007,” said William Burns, the chief executive of Roche‘s pharma division.
Burns said that production capacity would be well ahead of demand, based on current stockpile orders by governments.
