There are no immediate reports of casualties nor extensive damage after a powerful earthquake shook East Africa in the Lake Tanganyika region on Monday.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported the 6.8-magnitude quake struck at 2:10 p.m. local time and was centred near the Congo-Tanzania border.
The epicentre of the temblor, which was located about 10 km below the surface, was placed 55 km southeast of the town of Kalemie in the Democratic Republic of Congo; 150 km south of Kigoma, Tanzania and 975 km southwest of Nairobi, Kenya.
The USGS said the quake shook the ground in at least three Kenyan towns, including Nairobi and the coastal city of Mombasa.
