Afghan MP dies after gun battle
A former militia commander elected to Afghanistan’s new parliament has been killed in a gunfight along with at least two supporters, officials say.
Esmatullah Muhabat was shot in a row over a fire allegedly caused by one of his followers at a wood yard in Laghman province, the Interior Ministry said.
He is the first member of parliament to be killed since results in the landmark poll were announced last month.
Seven election candidates were killed in the run-up to the 18 September vote.
Another candidate was killed in early October while ballots were still being counted.
