Ford To Close Five Plants
Ford is about to reveal plans to close five factories that employ around 7,500 workers, according to the Wall Street Journal as cited by The Street. The report, published today, said Ford would probably shut down assembly plants in St. Louis, Atlanta and St. Paul, Minn., along with an engine-parts facility in Ontario and a truck-assembly plant in Mexico. The report cited two people familiar with Ford’s product plans. Like rival GM, Ford is trying to cut costs amid poor vehicles sales. Last month, GM announced it would cut some 30,000 jobs. Ford recently committed to cutting 4000 white-collar jobs next year.
