Cellphone Bandit’s Boyfriend Pleads Guilty
The boyfriend of the alleged “cell phone bandit” pleaded guilty Thursday to federal charges in connection with four bank robberies in northern Virginia. Dave Williams, 19, admitted to conspiring with Candice Martinez to rob branches of Wachovia Bank, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
The case gained national attention after a woman was pictured on surveillance tape with a cell phone to her ear throughout one of the four bank robberies she committed. Officials said Martinez and Williams were talking to each other by cell phone during all four heists.
Authorities said Martinez had a .38-caliber revolver with her during a November 4 robbery, which Williams allegedly provided her. The pair were arrested separately last month.
