Woman Dies of Bird Flu in Indonesia
A 25-year-old woman has died from the H5N1 bird flu virus in a Jakarta hospital, Indonesian health officials said Wednesday.
Endang Mamahit, senior researcher at the country’s Health Ministry, confirmed its tests had shown the woman had contracted the virus, but said the results would have to be confirmed by a Hong Kong-based laboratory affiliated with the World Health Organization.
If the diagnosis is confirmed, she would be the country’s eighth death from avian flu, the BBC said.
