This morning, Attorney General will try to persuade the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold a 2003 state law requiring New Hampshire girls under 18 to tell a parent 48 hours before having an abortion.

When the court issues its decision months from now, the whole country will be watching. If Ayotte wins, abortions could become harder to get for teenagers and women in all 50 states.

The oral arguments will begin at 11 a.m. Ayotte and Jennifer Dalven, an American Civil Liberties Union lawyer from New York who is arguing for Planned Parenthood’s side, will each get 30 minutes to make their case. Ayotte, however, has agreed to share her time with the U.S. solicitor general, who backs the New Hampshire law because he also supports a ban on partial-birth abortions that doesn’t contain a health exception.
