Morocco and Spain Smash Large al Qaeda network
Some strikes by al-Qaeda were planned for American, Israeli and Jewish targets. At least 20 suspects were arrested in Morocco, 10 in Spain and several more secretly in the UK, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark.
In Morocco, they were picked up in Rabat, Agadir and Casablanca. Some were members of the armed forces. In Spain, the arrests were made in Alicante, Granada and Murcia.
Spain’s interior minister alleged that the cell “gave logistical support and finance†to the Algerian-based Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat.
This is one of the biggest al-Qaeda rings ever to be broken up. Our sources add the network took its orders from an al-Qaeda command center in Syria. Links between the Middle East, Moroccan and Belgium cell commanders were maintained by means of secret rendezvous in Turkey.
