Infant Beater Sentenced to Life
A 23-year-old father convicted of beating his infant daughter nearly to death to stop her crying was sentenced to life in prison on Friday.
A jury deliberated for about three hours before it handing down its punishment against Ivan Emmanuel Castaneda.
Officials said the baby, whose injuries were discovered after she was hospitalized in February, had been sexually abused, had two fractured legs, a fractured arm, a fractured skull, a fractured vertebra and a healing rib fracture. The infant also had vaginal and anal tears from being sexually assaulted, and her tongue was almost severed.
