Truck Driver Charged in SC Hayride Fatality
In Temperance Hill, South Carolina, the driver of an 18-wheeler that slammed into a fall hay ride on Sunday, killing a toddler and three adults, was charged Monday with felony drunken driving, authorities said.
The collision happened in the early evening darkness just after 7 p.m. Sunday when the semi slammed into the back of a tractor-pulled flatbed trailer that had no rear lights. Sixteen people were injured in the crash; two remained hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries Monday.
The truck driver, 51-year-old Jake Davis Jr. of Florence, was charged with felony driving under the influence. Investigators said it was unclear how fast the truck was going and they would not disclose the truck driver’s blood-alcohol level.
