Miers Asks President to Withdraw Nomination

So finally, we are come to it, Harriet Miers has asked the President to withdraw her nomination to the Supreme Court. Courting danger and ridicule for weeks now, President Bush has steadfastly stood behind his nominee, despite the fact that she might not have been a good candidate.

With little or not judicial experience, and a very conservative view on the world (especially abortion), she has ruffled Senatorial feathers for a while now, garnering little support. The Senate had asked her to re-submit her information, especially the papers on when she worked at the White House. She said this was unacceptable, and did not submit them in time. Talk about rubbing people the wrong way.

Harriet Miers, by all accounts, would not have gotten the support required to get through the nomination process. Even the GOP was not all standing behind her, with Senators having a hard time finding something good to say about her.

Captain’s Quarters has a good write-up on the final days of Harriet Miers and her woes, and as he mentions, her glory days are over and the end was nigh approaching.
