Romania Detects New Bird Flu Cases
A new case of bird flu has been detected in Romania, officials say.
“The H5 bird flu virus has been found in a heron near the border with Moldova,” Agriculture Minister Gheorghe Flutur told a local news agency.
Tests now will be carried out to determine whether it is the lethal H5N1 strain of the virus.
The H5N1 strain has already been found in two locations in Romania’s Danube delta. Bird flu has killed at least 60 people in Asia since December 2003.
