Saddam Pleads Not Guilty
Saddam Hussein pled not guilty to the 1982 massacre of 143 men and boys from the town of Dujail. When the judge asked him “Tell us if you are guilty or not guilty,” Saddam simply said “I am innocent.”
When the judge asked Saddam to state his name, he replied with a string of statements such as “I am the president of the Iraqui court,” and “I will not recognize a false court.” Judge Rizgar Muhammad Amin told Hussein that he was the FORMER president, and Hussein argued with him. After listening to him calmly with a look of amusement on his face, the judge then told Mr. Hussein to sit down.
After the plea, court was adjourned until November 28.
