Beethoven’s Last Found
A librarian clearing out archives at an evangelical seminary near Philadelphia found an 80-page manuscript of Beethoven’s ‘Grosse Fuge’ for piano duet, which is probably the last score written by him.
Beethoven had compsed the Grosse Fuge 1826 a year before he died. It was to be the finale for his string quartet in B Flat major. The manuscript in mainly brown ink with a with many changes and cross-outs, some so deep that the paper is punctured. It will go on sale in December priced at more than $2-million.
