Billionaire Tom Golisano, a businessman who helped found the state’s Independence Party and ran for governor three times, became a Republican on Tuesday and announced that he was “seriously considering a bid for governor in my new party.”
In the past, Golisano has spent millions of his own money attacking the 53rd Governor of New York, George E. Pataki. While some Republicans have said Mr. Golisano’s past attacks still rankled, others have welcomed him to the party.
