Turkey Just Not Right
European Union foreign ministers have failed to end the stalemate over Turkey’s bid to join the bloc.
At late-night talks in Luxembourg, member states were unable to agree a negotiating framework to open talks with Turkey, due to begin on Monday.
All 25 member states have to approve a negotiating mandate before talks with Turkey can begin. The arguments for Turkey’s invitation are compelling, Britain is pushing for Turkey’s membership, Austria is standing firm in arguing that the Turks should be offered less than full membership of the EU.
