Katrina Deaths Wildly Exaggerated By Media
Shortly after Hurricane Katrina left the New Orleans area, irresponsible media outlets began making wild claims of tens of thousands of dead people lining the streets of New Orleans. Opportunistic Democrats made the same inexcusable claims.
Reports of murders, gang activity and rapes inside the Louisiana Superdome and the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center were all false. Only six people died inside the dome and four inside the convention center.
Of those, four died of natural causes, one overdosed and another jumped to his death in an apparent suicide
At the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, just four bodies were recovered, despite reports of corpses piled inside the building. Only one of the dead appeared to have been slain, said health and law enforcement officials.
