God vs Evolution goes to trial
In October 2004, the Dover, Pennsylvania school board ruled that Intelligent Design is a valid alternative theory to evolution, and now requires teachers to tell students that evolution is merely one, unproven theory.
Almost immediately after, 11 parents filed suit against the district school board, arguing that the decision was motivated by a desire to get religion taught in science classes. The school board takes the position that it’s about freedom of speech.
The trial opened today at a federal court in Harrisburg, and is expected to last about a month.
