Rita intensifies to a Category 5 Hurricane

BREAKING: Hurricane Rita is now the most powerful force nature has to offer. The National Hurricane Center has just announced that Rita has intensified into a monster category 5 hurricane. Rita’s winds have been clocked at 165 mph. While Category 5 storms only of have a lifespan of 12-36 hours, Rita will still be a very dangerous hurricane when it makes landfall.

Houston and Galveston officials have ordered mandatory evacuations of all homes on or near the ocean, including parts of Galveston Bay.

DATA FROM RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT INDICATE THAT RITA HAS REACHED CATEGORY FIVE INTENSITY WITH ESTIMATED MAXIMUM SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS OF 165 MPH. THIS WILL BE REFLECTED IN THE 4 PM CDT aDVISORY.

UPDATE: As expected, Rita has been downgraded to a Catogory 4 Hurricane but is still a very dangerous storm.
