Man gets 6-organ transplant
43-year-old Greg Marshall of Antwerp, New York, was released from Georgetown University Hospital Wednesday after being given a new pancreas, liver, kidney, stomach, small intestine and colon on August 25.
Marshall has been intravenously fed since his digestive organs stopped working two years ago because of a rare condition called Gardner Syndrome. Since the transplant he’s had a few solid foods, such as gelatin, fish, and even a ham sandwich.
Marshall will stay several weeks in a hotel near the hospital, which is in Washington D.C., then return to his home if no complications turn up. He looks forward to holding his 18-month old grandchild for the first time without being hooked up to anything.
