Katrina Evacuees Visit Home
Many families were allowed to return to their homes in Jefferson Parish and other suburbs outside New Orleans to gather items they needed and to assess the damage, but were told to leave before nightfall because of no power or clean water.
Expecting the worst, many brought guns for protection against looters. Michael Norton brought a shotgun, while his friend Dan Sanders toted a pistol.
