In a crowded theater in Beni Suef, Egypt, a fire was started when an actor knocked over a candle. The set was made mostly of paper and caught fire quickly, engulfing the theater in flames, causing the 1000 audience members to panic and start a stampede trying to escape. Reports of the death count vary from 29 to 40. Some died from the fire, while others were trampled to death.
