4 Men in California Plotted Terrorist Attacks
In Los Angeles Wednesday, four men were indicted on federal charges of planning terrorist attacks against National Guard facilities, the Israeli Consulate and other LA-area targets. The head of a militant Islamic prison gang and three others face counts of conspiracy to wage war against the U.S. government through terrorism, kill armed service members, and murder foreign officials, among other charges.
Prosecutors say Kevin James, a gang member from Los Angeles, began his plotting while serving time at a California correctional facility in the late 1990s, where he formed the radical organization Jam’iyyat Ul-Islam Is-Saheeh and preached violence against the US and Israel. His three partners are Levar Haley Washington, Gregory Vernon Patterson, and Hammad Riaz Samana.
James and the three others had purchased guns with silencers and were ready to carry out attacks when two of them were caught robbing a gas station to fund the operation.
