Northwest Airlines Mechanics Strike
Mechanics and other ground workers struck Northwest Airlines early on Saturday after last-ditch negotiations failed to reach a deal on concessions to help the carrier cut costs and avert possible bankruptcy.
The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association represents 5,400 mechanics, cleaners and custodians at the No. 4 U.S. airline, which said it would use replacement workers to maintain its planes and keep flying.
