France the More Pro-Active
It seems that in this day and age, we are less tolerant of people’s freedom to speak. But, perhaps we should be – if that freedom is used to promote hatred and incite violence. Especially one might say, if those that incite such violence live in the very society they hate! Such is the case in Britain and the USA.
BUT, in France, they are taking a far more pro-active stance against this vitriolic language that, although defined as “free speech” in many Western countries, has nothing to do with freedom. France understands this and French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy has vowed to deport any Muslim cleric preaching violence. Already, France has expelled a cleric that promoted polygamy, wife-beating and eventual conversion of everyone to Islam.
While not co-operating on Iraq, France is totally dedicated to the War on Terror and has formed a top-secret intelligence center codenamed Alliance Base, with several nations contributing such as Canada, France, Australia, UK, US and Germany. Several arrests and detentions have already been made and surprisingly perhaps, France has the toughest laws on terrorism.
On the subject of cooperation with the Allies on Afghanistan, France has already sent special forces soldiers to work alongside Allied troops fighting the War on Terror on the ground so to speak. Since we know that bin Laden operated out of Afghanistan it is safe to say that the French are right where it started, helping the Allies.
