The Kashmir conflict between India and Pakistan has hindered the clean-up attempts of the Kashmir lake called Dal Lake. What the picture-perfect postcards don’t tell you about is the pollution continually flowing into the lake, some 18 million liters of raw sewage flowing into the lake each day.

With $100 million in funding, and the relocation of 50,000 inhabitants around or on the lake, this will eventually return the lake to pristine condition, and raise the living standards of those relocated. And with the security of the area slowly returning, tourists are coming back, making it ever more important to revitalize the lake.
